He has paid the highest price.

2 Corinthians 5:18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.

“He has paid the highest price.”

These are words that have been ringing in my heart for a week now. They are reaching deep into my heart and stirring a lot of emotion as I reflect on what God did for me. What God did for you.

There are two kinds of people that I have observed:

The first, thinks on the sacrifices of Jesus and is immediately drawn to the wickedness of humanity and ponders the depth of horror and evil that must fill the human race in order to justify the death of Jesus as payment for it.

I want to be very clear. Sin is NOT a small matter to God. It was a must to God that sin was judged and paid for. So much so that He would send His Son to pay for it with His life.

But we must be careful that we don’t confuse the MOTIVES of God as we look at the ACTIONS of God.

God’s HATRED OF SIN was not His primary motive for sending Jesus to die…..

It was HIS GREAT LOVE FOR PEOPLE that caused Him to send Jesus to die!

Romans 5:8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

But Jesus did not come for sin. He has no desire for it or use of it.  He came for people.

Sin was and is a byproduct of fallen humanity that stood in the way of God and people. God put sin in His crosshairs 2000 years ago and pulled the trigger. Removing the barrier that kept us from Him.

The second group of people, (the group I hope you fall into) thinks on the sacrifice of Jesus and is immediately drawn to the great love of God that is demonstrated in what Jesus did!

Love is God’s primary motivation.

When you realize what God paid to bring us back to Him…. You’ll never question God’s love for you and me.
