The Trickle Effect

I was thinking today about the Psalm 1:1-3.

We all know it, or at least most of us have heard it at some point and time. It talks about how a person will be blessed if he walks in the way of the Lord. If a person does not walk towards the things that are wicked, the Lord will be with him.

Psalm 1:1-3  talks about us that serve the Lord being like a tree planted by streams of water. I really think too few of us are planted in anything any more. It seems like we get into a hard spot in life/ ministry /friendships and we simply break away from whatever it is and walk away. It seems too hard and we just walk away from that person or situation.

What I never noticed before is that it says we will be planted by “streams” of water. Not the raging rivers that wash away all issues. Not the raging current that takes away everything that may cause us momentary hardship, but the gentle streams of living water that flow from our relationship with the Lord through his spirit.

John 7:28 says that “whoever believes in me, streams of living waters shall flow from within him”. Sometimes we hope for this overpowering deliverance from the current struggle, when the Lord desires to strengthen us with a consistent stream of love and goodness. Some times we need to take heart in the little things that happen in our lives. Take heart in the little victories, encourage yourself in the little battles that you win each and every day. Stand in the fact that the Lord is leading you in your everyday life and giving you strength to keep going through your situation. Its coming from within, from the stream that trickles from the heavens to your heart.
